Getting a new phone should be exciting—but moving your data, especially across Android and iPhone, can be stressful. For WhatsApp users, losing chats, photos, and videos is the last thing you want. In the past, transferring WhatsApp between systems was unreliable or required paid third-party tools.
The good news: WhatsApp now officially supports direct data migration between Android and iPhone. Here’s a clear guide to help you move your chats smoothly.
iPhone → Android
Requirements:
Android 12 or later (or supported models)
Lightning to USB-C cable
Steps:
On the new Android phone, install WhatsApp and select “Transfer from iPhone” (no login needed yet).
Connect both devices with the cable.
On your iPhone, open WhatsApp, scan the QR code, and confirm the migration.
Once complete, log into WhatsApp with the same number—you’ll see your chat history.
Android → iPhone
Requirements:
iPhone running iOS 15.5 or later
“Move to iOS” app installed on Android
Steps:
During iPhone setup, select “Move Data from Android.”
On Android, open Move to iOS and enter the code shown on iPhone.
Choose WhatsApp and wait for the transfer to finish.
Log in on iPhone with the same number to restore your chats.
Things to Keep in Mind
The phone number must match the one used in the backup.
iCloud and Google Drive backups are not cross-compatible.
Media files may take extra time to fully load after migration.
